Swift Current Academy is located in Swift Current, Newfoundland. The school is part of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, and serves 24 students from the four neighbouring communities of Black River, Garden Cove, North Harbour and Swift Current.
Swift Current Academy has 5 teachers, a guidance counsellor and 2 support staff, who offer a variety of curriculum utilizing multi-grading, CDLI and Google Apps for Education to deliver outcomes to students. Each year, students participate in Math days and Science fairs to extend their learning in these core subjects.
Extra-curricular activities include student council, choir, drama, cross country and ping pong. Drama awards from the regional drama festival find a place in the school's showcase. In 2012-2013, the school hosted the School Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Boys 'A' basketball championships where the team won a silver medal.
Swift Current Academy is an environmentally aware school. Along with a recycling program, students practice "Friday Flick-off", where they conserve energy by turning off the classroom lights each Friday afternoon.
The students of Swift Current Academy participate in EF tours. During Easter 2013, they travelled to England and France, making a memorable visit to Beaumont Hamel. The students also visited California during the Summer of 2014.
Swift Current Academy welcomes new volunteers each year, specifically with the Breakfast Program, Hot Lunch Program, School Council and chaperones for school trips. We would love to have you!
